6th Korean-German Energy Day

21st March 2024 | Grand Hyatt: Marlene-Dietrich-Platz 2, 10785 Berlin | On-site only

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), we are pleased to announce that the 6th Korean-German Energy Day will be held as a physical conference on 21 March 2024 in Berlin, Germany.

The Korean-German Energy Day provides a platform for energy experts from government, industry, research and civil society to exchange views and learn from each other’s experiences. The overall focus of the event is to discuss policy measures and showcase technologies which can be utilized to the benefit of Korea and Germany’s carbon neutrality goals.

As two highly industrialized economies with ambitions to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045 and 2050 respectively, Germany and Korea face the challenge of expanding their supply of renewable energy. To accomplish this feat, both countries must ensure a steady supply of components and raw materials for their renewable energy technologies. With increasing global competition for raw materials and growing awareness of human rights and environmental concerns, strengthening sustainable supply chains for these technologies is of huge importance. Additionally, for decarbonizing their economies, Korea and Germany also share the goal and challenge to build up supply-chains for importing low-carbon hydrogen.

The first part of the event will look at how supply chains for renewable technologies can be diversified to make them more resilient, and it will present and discuss approaches that aim at reducing the need for raw materials and rare earths. The second part of the event will focus on the development of global supply chains for low-carbon hydrogen and the role of government policies in strengthening this market.

The conference will be translated simultaneously between Korean / English.
